walking in Pindos
Yasoo Alex,
A small group of friends and I are planning a week\'s walking trip through the Vikos Groge and up to Gamila peak in late May / early June. We will stay in villages and the Astraka hut along the way.
I am wondering what the snow conditions are typically like for this time of year? Is it usually patchy and confined to the north facing slopes? Or is it more prevalent?
In addition, what are temperatures like on the summits at this time of year?
We are hoping to go at this time so that we can enjoy the wildflowers along our route. I have read that this is a good time for flowers.
Efharisto,
Alan

there is always some snow on high terrain >2100m of Pindos in late May - Early June , usually little left and patchy on other slopes but surely more snow, in some cases might be also quite icy, is on the north facing slopes and galleys.
It is recommend to have an ice axe with you at this time of the year when doing serious crossing such the ones as to Vrisohori or Konitsa via the Karteros pass or via the Tsuka Rosa pass.
Temperatures on the summits may vary a lot at that time of the year, it rarely gets below 0 in the nights and might be 20 C or higher during the warmest hrs.
Yes nature and wild flowers are at their best in May-June. I recommend that you take many photo films with you ;)
greetings
Alex
